July 2020 TBR

It’s July, *saddest wooooo noise ever*

Normally I’d be thrilled, but July in this state is hot as fuck, the beaches are crowded with coronavirus-infested tourists, Black people are still being murdered by the police and work sucks ass right now.

So, let’s talk about the books I’m excited for this month. It’s mostly SFF, because June was filled with fluffy romance and while that’s a lovely form of escapism, I want to actually read more science fiction.

Not a whole lot of diversity amongst my authors, but I think I’m going to listen to books by Black authors. Not sure which ones just yet, which is why they are not on my TBR. My audiobook list hardly ever makes it to the ~official~ TBR, mainly because I have no idea what I’m going to listen to next until it comes on hold from the library!

The “I’ve Procrastinated Long Enough and Now the Book is Being Published This Month” ARCs

Welp, June’s TBR was a complete and utter bust, since two of these were on June’s list

My nerves for both Girl, Serpent, Thorn and Unravel the Dusk are fraying, mainly because the last several forays into YA anything have not ended well for me. And both of these are highly anticipated reads. I feel like I need to lower my expectations for them, as YA in general has been highly disappointing (mostly it’s my mood that’s causing me to be hypercritical). I have low/few expectations for Shielded, mainly because I’ve heard so little about it!

Devil With the Devil has ~mercenary~ librarians and I’m down for that! I’m hoping for a hot and kinda sexy read with charm and actual plot so here’s hoping this delivers!

After being bowled over in love with The Calculating Stars and underwhelmed by the plot-slow The Fated Sky, I am a little cautious about The Relentless Moon, which follows Nicole Wargin instead of Elma York. But I love this world, so I can’t wait to dive in! And I need to dive in soon, since it releases July 14th.

The “These Release Early Next Month, I’m Feeling Ambitious” ARCs

*laughs hysterically* How long as Harrow been on my TBRs? Anyone counting? I haven’t, mostly because I don’t want to cry, but I will get to it this month *shakes fist*.

I haven’t talked much about The Space Between Worlds, but I’m intrigued by the premise and the fact that it’s supposed to be super queer and deal with the multiverse. Plus that cover is swoonworthy.

Backlist Titles Because My Ambition Likes Setting Me Up To Fail

And because I’m a masochist, here are the backlist titles I want to read this month. I have heard nothing but great things about Velocity Weapon and The Wolf of Oren-Yaro, and I keep meaning to read them and never actually get around to it. And I’ve had All Clear checked out from the library for quite some time, and I probably need to return it soon.
