Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Well it’s been a hot minute since I posted anything new. I blame that on the hell that was moving and well, recovering from all that came from moving. And of course, during this time I got nine rejection letters within a seven-day timespan so that was a lot of fun. Coupled with a real sense of me wondering what the fuck I’m doing here, thinking anyone wants to read my reviews (or writing in general) and what even do I promote or stand for, it’s been a fun couple weeks.

But here’s a light and semi-breezy entry back into the world of blogging, with the books I am HIGHLY anticipating to read this summer. After a spring filled with SFF, I’m feeling a rom-com summer coming on, sprinkled with a later dose of SFF as I roll in for my SFF-heavy September ARCs.

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan (20 July 2021)

Meant to Be: If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy (3 August 2021)

After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America’s favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs filling ASAP, Cindy volunteers, hoping it might help jump-start her fashion career, or at least give her something to do while her peers land jobs in the world of high fashion. Turns out being the only plus size woman on a reality dating competition makes a splash, and soon Cindy becomes a body positivity icon for women everywhere.

The Royals Next Door by Karina Halle (31 August 2021)

Piper Evans: elementary school teacher by day–avid romance reader and anonymous podcaster by night. Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P Manansala

Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q Sutanto

Unfortunately, a dead body proves to be a lot more challenging to dispose of than one might anticipate, especially when it is accidentally shipped in a cake cooler to the over-the-top billionaire wedding Meddy, her Ma, and aunties are working, at an island resort on the California coastline. It’s the biggest job yet for their family wedding business—“Don’t leave your big day to chance, leave it to the Chans!”—and nothing, not even an unsavory corpse, will get in the way of her auntie’s perfect buttercream cake flowers. But things go from inconvenient to downright torturous when Meddy’s great college love—and biggest heartbreak—makes a surprise appearance amid the wedding chaos.

I Own and Need to Read, Dammit

Although honestly, these might get pushed to September, where I: 1) hopefully read all of my September ARCs in advance and 2) carefully craft a kick-ass SFF TBR that motivates and excites
