Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Bought Because I Couldn’t Find Them At My Library!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Wow it’s been a minute since I posted a T10T.

I blame stress. Work has been hell even before the pandemic, and let’s just say that the coronavirus has not take me off the burnout express.

So with this book buying freebie I’m going to highlight books that I bought because my librar(ies) didn’t have them! Or because I bought the other books in the series and enjoyed them and so am reading them (slowly because ARCs are priority).

Don’t get me wrong, my libraries are awesome and have a wide selection. And whoever is doing the SFF collection development for the Navy Digital Library is seriously on 🔥 because pretty much everything that I want that I can’t get through the other libraries or as an ARC is on there. I am very impressed.

These are all on my TBR, and I will get to them.

Physical Copies

Some of these I’ve had for a minute, and some are brand spanking new!

I could not for the life of me find a copy (physical or ebook) of A Kingdom for a Stage, which is the sequel to the absolutely amazing and criminally undertyped For A Muse of Fire by Heidi Heilig. Seriously, check the first book out. It takes YA fantasy and spins so many tropes.

Crier’s War and The Winter Duke are two sapphic YA fantasies I’ve been dying to read, and I purchased both from two different independent bookstores.

Clear to Lift was an amazon purchase, because I adored Hover and was astonished to find she had another book! I’m all about supporting fellow female veterans.

And yes, these were all bought through amazon. Yes, yes, I know, I know.

World Departed is written by my absolute most-favoritist zombie author of all time, Sarah Lyons Fleming. When I learned she had dropped a brand new book I was over the moon with delight. Seriously, check her out. Her zombie books are intense and heart-warming and scary and all of the characters (except the bad guys—who aren’t the zombies) are amazing and my precious babies.

The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics has been on my owned-shelf and various monthly TBRs a lot. I need to read it. I do, I know it. And I will. Soon. Maybe this summer?? I’m thinking Pride Month is going to be filled with a lot of sapphic fiction. Same goes to Bound in Flame (being on my TBR a while…it’s not sapphic as far as I know).

I’ve heard nothing but positive things about The Wolf of Oren-Yaro, and it’s on my list! It is! I just need to get through the massive amount of ARCs that I stupidly requested (but they have all been really gooooooood) before I can get to it.

And Gray Girl is a fictional account of a young woman at West Point, written by…a female graduate of West Point. From the early years of when women were admitted. It’s gonna be intense and I’m a little scared.
