Mid-Month Musings: December 2019

So.

Close.

To.

200.

This has become my white whale, my windmill, my moon in the distant sky.

7 books left.

So far this month I’ve read 8 books, and they’ve all been really great!

All Wrapped Up

So far everything has been a four or five star read! I just hope to keep this momentum through December. There’s been a lot of variety in my reading so far, and I think it’ll only continue. And yes, I have read three audiobooks so far, which is the only good thing about a 40-minute commute.

Five stars: The Downstairs Girl (review coming), All-American Muslim Girl, Cub (review coming), How Long ’til Black Future Month (review coming).

Four stars: The Simple Wild, The Last Days of the Incas, Start With Why, The Deep (review coming).

I’m not reallllllly behind on reviews (oh who am I kidding, yes I am!), but all of the five star reviews are scheduled to be posted later this month.

Currently Reading

Yes, I’m kinda currently reading five books.

Dear Haiti, Love Alaine and The Ten Thousand Doors of January both downloaded to my digital library on the same day. And are audiobooks with a two week check-out time, so I’ve been cramming How Long ‘Til Black Future Month so that I can catch up and read these. It’s a lot of audiobooks to get through, but I think I can do it? If I’m verrrry asocial.

I’m currently reading Woven in Moonlight, which is the second of my January ARCs that I want to get through before January. I want to start ahead instead of feeling behind. I haven’t really started this one yet, because I just finished The Deep late last night and Get a Life, Chloe Brown chose that moment to come off hold from my library as a digital loan.

I’m also currently reading The Giver of Stars, which is a buddy read with Laura and Cassandra from The Procrastinators Book Club. We just started today!

On Top of My TBR

Why yes, that is Parable of the Sower, done twice. One is the graphic novel and the other is the published book. I have an ARC of the graphic novel and would like to read the source material first. The other books are all January ARCs that I can’t wait to dive into!

Treat Yo’Shelf After 200

If I can reach 200 before December 31st, I’m going to read The Fiery Cross! At last! I will get to it. It feels like a winter book, so therefore it is.

I have a feeling that if I can get ahead on all of my January ARCs, I can spend January reading more of my backlisted TBR that I’ve been meaning to read for forever. Of course, I have a couple February ARCs to get through and new releases I want to read, but one of my goals for 2020 is to read for fun and not turn reading into a hobby that stresses me out.

How are your 2019 reading goals coming along?
